One Less Plugin: PayPal Moves Directly Into the Shop Core

Until now, PayPal has run in your PlentyONE shop through a separate plugin: manual updates to install, extra complexity in checkout, one more component to keep an eye on. We're removing exactly that overhead.

The new PayPal core integration anchors the connection directly in the shop core, rather than routing it through a separate plugin. This lays the groundwork for more stable, more performant payment processing. You can now test the integration in your own setup as part of our beta phase.

What the New Integration Gives You

• Less maintenance: The separate PayPal plugin disappears, along with manual updates. We roll out changes and enhancements centrally through PlentyONE from now on.
• Better performance: Removing the extra plugin reduces technical complexity in checkout, easing the load on your shop and laying the groundwork for faster load times.
• More payment methods from one integration: Depending on availability and eligibility, your customers can also use Pay Later, invoice payment, debit and credit cards, Google Pay™ and Apple Pay® at checkout.¹ ² ³
• A future-proof integration: Because PayPal is now part of the shop core, we develop it alongside PlentyONE and keep it technically up to date.

Switching Over Is Straightforward

For shops on version 2.4.1 or later, an automated migration path is available: open "Migrate configuration" and transfer your existing setup in a click. Afterwards, you can manually deactivate the previous PayPal checkout plugin.

If the automated migration isn't offered to you, you can run the manual migration instead via the manual migration guide. Please note: migration is currently only available to accounts enabled for the beta phase.
